Hi everyone! I'm here to tell you what's going on in fifth grade. Lately, we've been working on bandannas for dogs at the humane society. Everyone was very enthusiastic, and they did a great job. We've also started our Ancient Egypt project. Students have picked a subject, say, mummies. They researched their topic on the computer. and in books. When they know enough about their topic, they will make a multimedia presentation, and a paper about it. In art, the students all made candle holders, and are going to wrap them, and give them to someone they care about. Thanks for reading, and We'll see you at the end of winter break!

The 5th grade is very lucky to have a band and having an awesome band instructor. We had a lot of different choices in 4th grade and chose the instruments then. we had 9 choices in all-and about half of the band is playing trumpet. That took up the whole 2nd row of chairs. We also have flutes, violins, clarinets, french horns, trombones, tubas, baritones, saxophones, percussion, and an oboe. We just had our first band concert on December 4th 2008! We actually had two because we performed for the school and our parents. I think it went very smoothly! Well except for somebody's trumpet breaking and a stand falling over but other than that it went fine! I cant wait for the next concert!

What is happening in fifth grade!

Hi my name is Alexes this week so far we have had buddies! We played a fun game we played fill the snowman. Well we had to guess how many marshmallows it would take to fill the snowman and after we were done we got to chow down on the marshmallows! Then we could play another game it was when we rolled a dice and we had a sheet and when we rolled the dice the number we got we would draw the picture on the sheet. It was really fun!

This week we are working on a podcast on the book we read. Well we get to write a script and then we get to record are own voices. The whole theme of the books is Egyptian. we have been learning about Egypt for the past Two weeks.
Well thank you for reading my blog!

Hello my name is Nate
This trimester we are searching up about Egypt and about king tut. And we had a video conference with the Arizona patrol at the grand canyon. While we were talking we were learning about rocks at the grand canyon and they had fossils about dinosaurs and pictures about what it looked like in the dinosaur age. Why I like video conferences is that you can talk to people from different places and share your ideas with them.

Egypt artifacts

The other day in our fifth grade class room we looked at some pictures and artifacts from Egypt. This was very interesting for the kids in my class. We had pictures of toys that they have played with to weapons that they have used. The item that the class thought was the most interesting was the instrument that we got to try. This looked like a violin. These were not the exact items they were replicas of the real one. All 5th graders are exited to be learning about Egypt.

Service Project: Humane Society ( We need donations!)

Hi, I'm Amelia and I am from Mrs. Ament's fifth grade class. Sawyer ( another student from Mrs. Ament's room) and I are from the Fifth Grade Leadership Group. The Leadership Group meets with the principal, Mrs. Hernandez each Monday. The fifth grade took a secret ballot vote, and decided that the whole grade will make toys, bandannas, etc. , for the Minnesota Valley Humane Society in Burnsville.
But before we make the toys and such for the Humane Society, we need materials. We need fleece strips about two feet, small dowels ( minimum length 12 inches) , cotton material "20x 20",
fleece materials "12x20", and money donations incase we don't have enough of a certain item.
( Money donations: Please put the money in a envolope.) The deadline for the materials is December 15. If you have a pet, please wash the materials before your child turns it in.

Thank you

The First Blog

Hello,

This is the first entry to the Fifth Grade is Fun! blog. Creating a blog is one of the many things I have wanted to try. Fifth graders have been blogging on their thinkquest account for some time now. I've seen how engaged they are with their blogs and enjoy telling others their thoughts. The purpose of this blog is to tell everyone how much fun we are having in fifth grade and all the neat things we are doing and learning.

My goal is to update this blog twice a week. Through the blog you can get insight into our classroom, ask questions, post your own thoughts and become more involved in your fifth graders day.

I look forward to blogging with you!
