Winter Break and German PenPals

This week in school we received letters from or pen pals in Berlin, Germany.There are taught by Frau Artner. We sent letters back right away. Letters are sent in a large package.Winter break starts tomorrow. Winter break is 11 days long. We get back to school on January 3rd. There is a lot of snow on the ground. We have 28 inches of snow. Have fun playing in the snow!

This week we had our holiday party. It was extremely exciting because we got to limbo, play pictionary & beach volleyball, eat dipped pretzels & drink juice boxes. It was located in the gym & the party lasted from 2:45-3:15. There were a lot of parent helpers.

Today is the last day of school before winter break!!!! We don't come back until the new year, 2011!:)

Math Keynotes
(presentations on the Smartboard)

Mrs. Ament's math class has been working really hard on making their geometry presentations. Now we are presenting them in front of the class and a 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade class. Kids pair up and make a slide show on Keynote, Smart notebook, PowerPoint or Prezi.It was quite an experience. There were some technical difficulties but overall the presentations went exceedingly well.

The spanish feild trip.

This week the Spanish students went to a Mexican store where they bought food and/or drinks (vice versa) Senor Hensel and Senora Klinkner drove the students in mini buses. Most of the kids had bought their own money so they could get what they wanted. But they could only speak in Spanish. The main words we used were : counta questa Spanish for :how much is this lamp? (the lamp part was an example) . Trying to figure out the real part was probably the most challenging but also the most important. Because when your traveling you need to know the price otherwise you won't get it.

These past couple weeks 5th grade has been playing a Cambodian assemble. We have tested on the musical piece. We have been practicing for the assemble. here is what the piece sounds like:

5th grade band

This week we had our band concert. It was a lot of fun!!! Every part of the band got there own song. Percussion got holiday clock. Tuba's baritone's and trombones had base band rag. Trumpets had Hak'yo jung. It means the school bell is ringing. The flute's played twinkle twinkle little star. But the concert did not last long with only about 13 songs. It was very fun for all of us to be in front of a crowd. It was also very fun for our friends and family.

Today we reached our goal of 100 items for the food drive.We got 114 items now we get to have a popcorn party!!!The repasentives for our class are max and grace. All of student council had to pick up boxes and bring them down to the office to count the total of items we got for the whole school. Today is the last day to work on our keynotes.Everybody had to do one about ancient Egypt.We all got diffrent subjects for our keynote. We also had to write a paper on our subjects. The spanish kids in fifth grade are going on a field trip to a spanish market. mrs. ament's kids are going on tuesday. mrs. aldreman's class went today.we get a choice to pick out some candy or something. but we have to say it in spanish.

This week the school is collecting food for the food drive. If your class collects 100 items you get a popcorn party. So far our class is at 62 items.

The last 3 days we have had inside recess so we are very anxious to go outside.

over the weekend we had a blizzard. it made the snow very big and deep that when you step in it go's way high on you.we have to have a inside day because the temp is -8. Margaret and I were cold when we went outsides. some people could not go outside because of the blizzard.the doors were blocked by snow.the blizzard was so high.

Reasearch Reports And Einstein Problems

In fifth grade we are learning about ancient
Egypt. We are learning on how to write our
research papers on our topics. We are also doing Keynotes on our topics. Our final draft is due on December 20th. We are writing our rough draft's this week. In Mrs. Ament's math class we are working on Einstein problems. We are on level two.

Band and Food Drive

This week in band we have changed the band groups. Students got moved to different groups and some groups stayed the same. People have gotten scripts and we have one more full band practice until we have the concert! We also have a food drive starting on Monday the 13th, and ending on Friday the 18th. Every class which donates 100 items or more gets a popcorn party.

all about my week

my name is sylivia and this week at school at school was really fun. so of my week was kinda boring like when we all talk a lot the teacher has to wait for us to be Quit. we got a new time for math it is at 12.00 to 12:55 i like the new time a lot because because we do to recess right after we write in are planer. At recess i hang out with my bff jada and my other friends hanging out with my bff's is really fun. when we hang out it is really fun becuz we talk and say funny jokes and I think this week was one of the best. i have learned new ways to slove problems. thanks for reading this post and hope you read it ovEr and over have a good day bye and bye your friend sylivia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week we had a German exchange teacher named Frau artner and she taught us a lot about Germany. She showed us pictures of her class room and her students later Frau artner class room wrote a letter about what they like and such many other fun facts about them.One day Frau artner brought some poems and then are class got to write a poem about Autumn or Herbst what the called in Germany. This year of October there is a lunch bunch club and hey read a book called No More Dead Dogs.They just finished the book so this Wednesday October the 20th the lunch bunch club is doing a play about the book! until then you will have to wait!

today some of the Chinese learners had scary stories in the dark. some stories were scary and some of them were not. most of the kids liked the story, The Stalker. today for lunch was nachos. many of the people in band including me are working very hard on our music. we sound beautiful together. a couple days ago we got a German teacher. her name is Frau Artner. she has tought us many lessons and is getting back on her plane going home along with the other German teachers soon.

Welcome to the fifth grade world! In Mrs.Ament's class over the past week we've been working on a lot of stuff like, in science we are doing experiments using the scientific method. In technology we're looking at maps around the world in 3-D. We have also started number corner in class instead of in math. Our class will also watch Lunch Bunch book club perform a play on the book the read called No More Dead Dogs.I love fifth grade!

Tuesday

today we had a bus safety drill and the we came back inside and as soon as we sat down we were up again because the fire alarm was ringing. now we are back inside and doing readers work shop. some people are listening to reading and some are reading to self. so far this year we have been working on things like math, reading and social studies. this year we have a new specialist class. we now have library as cycle day #4. there is new playground equipment on the playground. now you know what's happening in 5th grade

"Mrs.Aments class is working hard" observes a "unknown" girl. "Well fortunately for the students o- f Mrs.Ament's fith-grade class, the mysterious girl wasn't lying. Unknown to them a while (several years) ago Mrs.Ament had decided 3 assignments that went undone in a month landed them in study hall while the annual end-of-the-month party went on,thus the perfect students had been borne!" Cried the ancient-looking fortune teller at the end of the street in China.The small group of kids stared at her & left. The End.

Here in fifth grade we are working on our writing we do poem's, essays and much more. The boys at recess are mostly playing football. In art we are working on a drawing that you mix together a beast, bird, fish and insect. A beast would be considered a elephant or a bull or something like that. In music were starting our guitar unit. Everybody is excited for it! We are starting band we are happy to start learning to perform for everyone!

2nd week of school!

So far in fifth grade we have been doing a lot of:Math,Reading,Writers workshop,Social studies and lots more.Its the 2nd week of school and we already know so much! in reading we are working on reading to self and reading to someone.In math we are learning about divison, inches and centimeters and much more.5th grade has been going great!Everyone got jobs assigned to them.Everyone had to pick their 1st 2nd 3rd job that they wanted and write a applacation and why they would fit that job.Then Mrs.Ament picked the jobs and everyone does that job for 1 trimester.Then for the next trimester we will be assigned another a job we wanted or not.

fifth grade

when you are in fifth grade you get to be a patrol and you get to be the head of the school.in fifth grade is the best grade in all of school.and we are getting ready to go on the big river.
